Kathleen A Hinderer, PhD, MS, MPT, PT
Executive Director, Michigan Abilities Center
Dr. Kathy Hinderer is a physical therapist who has devoted her life to serving those with special needs of all ages and abilities for over 35 years via clinical care, teaching, research, and co-authoring several chapters in leading rehabilitation textbooks. Kathy has considerable clinical experience treating a broad spectrum of disabilities across the lifespan, using a holistic approach. She completed a fellowship in developmental pediatrics and has been providing Hippotherapy services for over 10 years. Kathy incorporates a variety of effective therapeutic strategies along with Hippotherapy to achieve meaningful outcomes. She serves as Executive Director of the Michigan Abilities Center and Heritage Hill Haven in a voluntary capacity.
Jane Kent
Path Intl. Therapeutic Riding Instructor
Jane is a PATH certified instructor and joined the MAC team in 2013. For over 15 years, Jane has combined her love of horses and lifelong commitment to volunteering by working with equine assisted therapy facilities. As a civil engineer concentrating in the Transportation field, Jane has worked closely with the Commission for Persons with Disabilities to insure that ADA regulations were met. This began a deeper understanding of the challenges and possibilities for individuals in the disabled community. She serves as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor for MAC and Heritage Hill Haven in a voluntary capacity.
Roberta Hirshon, MSW
PATH Intl. Therapeutic Riding Instructor & Social Worker
Roberta has more than 35 years of experience as a social worker and a lifelong passion for riding and showing horses. As a social worker, she has worked with children, adolescents, and adults who have had a wide variety of mental health impairments and challenges, including autism, traumatic brain injuries, stress induced disorders, substance abuse & addictions, foster care, and family issues. Prior to coming to MAC, she directed the equine facilitated psychotherapy program at Forward Stride Therapeutic Riding Center in Oregon.
Dana Fix
Webmaster
Dana currently works as a Senior Business Analyst at Thomson Reuters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has been volunteering with Michigan Abilities Center since December 2016. Dana has experience with WordPress, HTML, and CSS in addition to project management and serves as the Webmaster for Heritage Hill Haven and Michigan Abilities Center in a voluntary capacity.
Gary Evans
IT Support
Gary grew up on a farm with horses and has a great breadth of experience, including technology, agriculture, and construction. Gary has considerable experience with IT security, network support, desktop and user support. He advises and provides technology support at MAC part time and is a Computer Systems Specialist in the University of Michigan Technology Services Department. He also had considerable experience in the building trades and is a very skilled mason. Gary assists with IT support for Heritage Hill Haven and Michigan Abilities Center in a voluntary capacity.
